BEAR Tower Defense Getting Started Guide
Everything a new player needs before Hard Mode, Quidz farms, and meta towers.
BEAR Tower Defense is a Roblox tower defense game from the BEAR* franchise by Cheedaman. You and up to other players defend a base from waves of Bobs by placing and upgrading towers with Cheese, the in-match currency. Matches feel fast because income, puzzles, and enemy types shift every few waves — understanding that loop early saves hours of trial and error.
This guide walks through your first session: joining a lobby, spending Cheese wisely, earning account Coins and Quidz, and knowing which wiki pages to open next.
Joining your first match
Open the Roblox game page and press Play. You land in a hub where you pick a map, difficulty, and optionally party with friends. For your first clears, choose Easy on Lost Temple or Haunted Mansion — both teach pathing without the spike damage of Hard Mode.
Inside the match, you receive starting Cheese and access to towers you have unlocked with Coins in the inventory menu. Place units on valid tiles along the enemy route. Upgrades cost more Cheese but multiply damage, range, or special effects. If a Bob reaches the base, you lose lives; leak too many and the run ends.
Co-op is standard. Communicate who covers early lanes, who saves for anti-air, and who handles puzzles between waves. One organized team beats a group that randomly maxes whatever tower is selected.
The three currencies
Cheese exists only during the current match. You earn it from wave clears, passive generation on some towers, and puzzle rewards. Spend Cheese on placements and upgrades — it vanishes when the round ends, so hoarding past what you need for the next boss is usually a mistake.
Coins are account-wide. You earn them from completing matches and milestones. Open the tower inventory and spend Coins to permanently unlock new units such as Cheese Factory, Psychic, Rockstar, Electrisam, and Hype Beast. Locked towers appear grayed out until you meet any level requirement and pay the price. Use the Unlock Priority Planner before you splurge on novelty picks.
Quidz is the franchise meta currency tied to capsules, cosmetics, and longer goals. Clearing matches — especially repeatable routes on Haunted Mansion — feeds Quidz over time. See Grind Quidz once you want a dedicated farm loop.
First towers to place
Early waves tolerate cheap damage dealers. Bear and Buckethead (sometimes written Bucket Head in community clips) clear ground Bobs efficiently and teach upgrade timing without draining your Cheese pool.
Do not stop there forever. As flying enemies like Balloon Bobs appear — often around mid waves — ground-only setups leak. Transition toward meta options listed on Best Towers: Cheese Factory for economy and area pressure, Psychic for single-target burst, and Rockstar for mixed damage. Add Electrisam or Hype Beast before maps that spam flyers.
If you are unsure what to unlock first with Coins, follow the planner tool and prioritize units that appear in both Easy clears and Hard Mode guides.
Waves, bosses, and difficulty
Matches run in numbered waves. Each wave spawns more or tougher Bobs. Mini-bosses and major bosses — Chained Bob is the famous final threat on several maps — announce themselves with on-screen warnings and larger health bars.
Easy forgives sloppy placement. Hard Mode increases speed and health, punishing players who skip puzzles or forget anti-air. When you are ready to push difficulty, read Beat Hard Mode and Beat Boss Waves for reposition and sell timing.
Extreme is optional endgame above Hard on select maps — especially Fat Lands after Hungry for More. Do not queue Extreme until Hard clears are clean; see Extreme Mode for the roster checklist.
Puzzles between waves
BEAR Tower Defense inherits puzzle minigames from older BEAR titles. During a match you may see Memory, Burger, Wire, Cowboy, or Hide challenges. Completing them grants items and a powerful temporary boost — community testing consistently reports roughly a 50% Cheese buff for about thirty seconds when you finish a puzzle successfully.
Skipping puzzles feels convenient but slows your upgrade curve, especially on Hard Mode where every Cheese point matters. Full mechanics live on Complete Puzzles.
A simple first-run checklist
- Queue Easy on Lost Temple or Haunted Mansion with at least one teammate.
- Place two Buckethead units near the spawn chokepoint.
- Complete every puzzle that appears; spend the Cheese spike on upgrades.
- Add Psychic or anti-air before flying waves if your team lacks coverage.
- Save account Coins for Cheese Factory or Psychic using the Unlock Priority Planner.
- After your first few wins, study Grind Quidz if you want faster unlocks.

Common beginner mistakes
Ignoring flying types — Buckethead cannot hit Balloon Bobs. Plan anti-air before wave five on several maps.
Never selling towers — Selling weak early units to fund strong late placements is core TD strategy, especially before Chained Bob.
Unlocking random towers — Coins are finite early on. Follow meta priority instead of buying every skin-compatible unit.
Skipping co-op — Solo is possible, but Haunted Mansion farms and Hard Mode clears are faster with roles split across players.
You now have the foundation. Play a few Easy runs, then branch into specialized guides as your goals shift from learning to optimizing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the difference between Cheese, Coins, and Quidz?
Cheese is in-match only for towers and upgrades. Coins permanently unlock towers in your inventory. Quidz is account meta currency used for capsules and cosmetics across the BEAR franchise.
Which map should beginners play first?
Lost Temple or Haunted Mansion on Easy. Both teach pathing with manageable enemy health before you attempt Hard Mode or Quidz farming routes.
What towers should I unlock with my first Coins?
Prioritize Cheese Factory, Psychic, and Rockstar per the current meta. Use the Unlock Priority Planner to see a recommended spend order for your account level.
Do puzzles matter in BEAR Tower Defense?
Yes. Completing Memory, Burger, Wire, Cowboy, or Hide puzzles grants items and roughly a 50% Cheese buff for about thirty seconds — a major upgrade accelerator.
When should I try Hard Mode?
After you can beat Easy without leaking and you understand sell timing for boss waves. Read Beat Hard Mode before queueing Hard on a new map. Extreme is post-Hard on map-gated stages like Fat Lands.
